Here's Hopin' for more Cape Henlopen

We went camping last weekend!  It was our first camping trip of the season and we were STOKED.  Ty booked us a campsite at Cape Henlopen State Park, located about 1 hour 45 minutes away from us.  We encountered rain, a lack of Quiznos in Dover, and biting gnats but boy did we have fun.  

You can never have too much stuff for your first camping trip with your babes.  Too bad pillows are not somewhere in this pile of stuff...

We made camp Friday evening.  Ty got us a fire started and we remembered how good s'mores are.  Hannah loved the campfire.  We had a thunderstorm roll in during the night and rain that lasted off and on until early afternoon Saturday.  We went on a great walk and saw the Great Dune (the largest dune between Massachusetts and South Carolina and also known as the Galloping Dune) and Fort Miles, an old military fort.  The guns were pretty impressive.  One gun could shoot a missile 2,500 feet per mile for 25 miles.

We also wandered the beach and found some gigantic horseshoe crabs.  Ty almost picked one up, thinking it was dead, but when it started flailing its pincers he jumped back pretty quick.  They are weird creatures.

By early afternoon the sun was out so we donned our bathing suits and headed to the beach!  The beach was a little nippy but we still had fun throwing some horseshoes around (I thought it fitting because we had seen so many horseshoe crabs earlier).  Hannah LOVED the sand.  She also thought the waves were pretty neat, albeit a bit cold.  We also got a very little bit of frisbee golf in :).

First camping of the season?  A hit.  We loved it and we're hoping for more good times this summer!
