Tyler turns 26

Ohkay, I know Tyler turned 26 one month and 10 days ago, but it should be documented for posterity's sake :).  Hannah spent all day saying, "Happy Birthday, Daddy!"  We had a great birthday time.  He had his birthday cream-of-wheat for breakfast, birthday presents from all the family (thank you all so much!), and birthday festivities that continued for weeks.  The latter occurred for numerous reasons: first, his parents got him a sourdough starter that he is still baking with.  Second, the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia (our planned birthday activity) was closed so we had to wait until Memorial Day to go.

Third, the present I got him was a glass-blowing class at Wheaton Arts in New Jersey for the following week.

We visited Wheaton Arts back in January and absolutely loved it.  Tyler thought the glass-blowing was so cool and I knew this class would be right up his alley.  It didn't disappoint.  He got to make one piece of glass art under the guidance of one of their resident glass blowers.  He chose a vase.  Here are a few snapshots of the artist in the making:
The first step was to melt a small amount of glass in extreme heat.
He then began to roll it into the desired shape.
...and blew in it to create the opening for the vase.
Then...you repeat the steps!  More glass, more melting...
More spinning...
More blowing...
Some shaping and breaking...
Until you have your finished product!
The artists :)
We had a great time!  Ty's talents continue to amaze me, and I'm happy to be married to this 26 year-old, good-lookin' man.
